Controversial tech entrepreneur and ex-hacker Kim Dotcom is planning his very own Internet, in which the blockchain would play âan important roleâ.
He made his comments about his proposed âMegaNetâ service on his Twitter feed:
How would you like a new Internet that canât be controlled, censored or destroyed by Governments or Corporations? Iâm working on it #MegaNet â Kim Dotcom (@KimDotcom) February 16, 2015
In later tweets, he explained how MegaNet would work.
#MegaNet is non-IP based. No more DDoS or hacking. No more censorship. No more spying. All your mobile phones become an encrypted network. â Kim Dotcom (@KimDotcom) February 16, 2015
Dotcom continued to tell his followers that they âwould be surprisedâ about âhow much idle storage and bandwidth capacity mobile phones haveâ, adding that âMegaNet will turn that idle capacity into a new networkâ.
The Internet bad boy assured that âthe blockchain will play an important role and battery drain wonât be an issue with hundreds of phones carrying MegaNetâ.
Initially, Dotcom said, MegaNet âwonât rely exclusively on mobile networks at launch. But the more powerful phones become the more data and traffic they will carryâ.
He concluded by telling the public: âYou become the MegaNet.â
Last year, Dotcom announced plans to create his own political party â called the âInternet Partyâ â stating that one of his goals was to create a new cryptocurrency in New Zealand.
